The rhodochrosite or the stone of the Incas

Last update: Sept. 15, 2022

Presentation

The rhodochrosite or dialogite draws its name from the Greek "rhodon" pink and "chrosis" color. It belongs to the family of carbonates and the group of calcite.

It was first used as a decorative decorative stone around 1930 under the names Inca rose and Inca rose then marketed as a gem around 1950.

It is a carbonate found mainly in manganese deposits manganese of marine origin. It occurs mainly in the form of festoons or parallel bands, alternately light and dark alternately light and dark, even stalactiform.

But beautiful beautiful crystals can be found in the form of scalenohedrons or rhombohedrons, sometimes up to 20 cm across, in polymetallic deposits.

The most appreciated is raspberry color. Its luster is vitreous, pearly on the cleavages. It can have black veins of manganese oxide.

Despite its fragility, zoned masses of various shades of pink are prized for their color, and their texture is brought out in sculpting art, cutting cabochons or necklace balls. It is faceted when it is gemmy.

Provenance

L'Argentina is the main producer. There, rhodochrosite is found near San Luis, 230km east of Mendoza. It was formed in stalagmites in Inca silver mines abandoned since the 13th century.

Other deposits exist in South Africa, Chile, the United States (Alma in Colorado), Mexico, Peru (Pasto Bueno) and Russia.

Lithotherapy

Rhodochrosite is the most wonderful of stones anti-stress stones. It is said to be a remarkable transmitter of energy, warming the heart and awakening feelings of love, tenderness and compassion.

It would emit vibrations which generate real forces around the persons who possess it, lavish peace and peace of mind. It is applied directly on the Solar plexus to regulate the emotionality.

Its calming effects would allow the subject to better control his movements and gestures, to breathe better, to have less heart palpitations.

Bizzilla or rhodochrosite in the spotlight

You will find rhodochrosite in the center of my painting "BIZZILLA" (lace in Maltese).

Made during the second confinement, Bizzilla is a desire for softness, tenderness and generosity. Rhodochrosite, the heart stone, with its soft colors, spreads its love through its ribbon-like patterns. The energy of the mineral spreads through the crochet strips to the fork to metamorphose into delicate flowers... A technique I learned as a child, fork lace is thus honored in this metallic version
